Pikey Peak trek March 2026

Another great trek in Nepal! The Pikey Peak trek began in Dhap after a long 10 hours of driving on rough, dusty roads east of Kathmandu and gaining elevations to 2800 metres. This trek is in the lower Solu Khumbu region with views of Mt Everest. We had a wonderful group of fellow trekkers, travel agent Lok and our guide, Dipesh with 3 strong porters - Ram, Raj and Tirthe! Having been to Everest Base camp a few times, it was interesting to see Mt Everest from 40 km away!

These are the Pikey Peaks - our destination 4065m

The trail follows some roads and turns into great trekking paths to enter the Sherpa area

Our first day from Dhap to Jhapre was sunny, but the clouds moved in and rained overnight and all the next day, so we decided to take a rest day to wait out the weather.

The rain turned to snow and trails became very slippery

And more snow all the way to Pikey Peak Base Camp

We had to descend through Rhododendron forests on steep paths still covered with ice and snow

Finally out of snowy trails into beautiful rhododendron forests, the national flower of Nepal!
Finally entering Junbesi at the end of the trek, a beautiful town in the foothills.

We took a 2 hour hike up 200 metres to the Thubten Choeling Monastery, built in 1968 by Trulchik Rinpoche who came from the Rongbuk Monastery in Tibet. It is occupied by 900 monks and nuns.

We made it down over 1000 metres to a small village of Taktor
